Check in, of a sort

Posted on June 5th, 2008 in Announcements, Personal, Reality by Chooch

Give the gap between my last post and this, its pretty apparent that I’m never going to become a regular blogger. I’ve tried it three times over the past 10 years and its clearly not something that I am wired to do.

When I do it, I enjoy it, but then other projects come and go and before I know it I haven’t written anything in months. Rather than pretend that I’m going to blog for real reals, I don’t really see any point in pretending that I’m going to come back at any regular interval and update the site.

I’m really excited about some other projects I’m currently working on. I’ve been writing more fiction and writing more music than I have in the past 15 years. I have connected with people I’m not related to in a more significant way than I have since high school. My wife and I are closer than we’ve ever been (which I didn’t think was possible).. but other parts of my life are slipping.

There are still only 24 hours in every day.. and sadly I spend at least 3 of those strapped into my car every work day getting to work and back. That time is excellent for podcast listening, but not for just about anything else given the concentration needed.

At the beginning of the year I made a list of all of the ways I spend my personal time and started making some changes. I created a very strict schedule of activities which I started off well with and slowly let slip. This does not surprise me.

So, I’m working on version 2.0. The two most significant time sucks that took a hit last time were TV and video game time. I went from following two dozen tv shows to maybe a dozen. Of course, they’re staggered across different seasons, so while its a lot, its not quite as bad as it sounds. I also went from playing games from about five nights a week to two.

TV is still a significant time sink so I’m dropping to just 4 shows that I don’t think I can live without. That ends up being about 45 episodes per year, or about 45 minutes of television a week. Not counting 30 minutes of brain rot at the end of each day which isn’t really consumed but is more of a lullaby. This generally takes the form of Seinfeld reruns or Family Guy.

Game probably won’t change for now. What will change, however, is consumption of other media. I’m significantly reducing the number of blogs that I’m following and the number of discussion forums that I’m frequenting.

All of this, presumably, will give me the time to pursue the projects that I find the most fulfilling. Unfortunately, updating my own blog isn’t one of them. While I like the romantic thought of having a place to hold my memoirs and review in future years to remind me of where my mind is at — the truth is that I’ve NEVER looked back over blog posts that I wrote 5-10 years ago, so I don’t see what the point is.

I suppose it makes sense if friends and family follow the information, but it’s so difficult to know if that’s happening, and few do the same, so… there’s a loop that is left open, and time and energy goes spilling out.

As the man once said “and that’s all I have to say about that.”

Take a Moment

Posted on May 12th, 2008 in Announcements, Personal, Social by Viv

C.A. Sizemore lost his beloved wife Kelly today. I sent this as a bulletin in myspace earlier today to my friends and family, then decided to post it here as well. I think it is something that most people need reminding of, as we pass through the chaos of day-to-day life.

There is a collection being taken for him, both to help with his expenses and to also show our love and condolences. Here is the link if you’d like to contribute. Donations for C.A. Sizemore.

An acquaintance came home this morning to find his wife had passed away. It’s not anyone you would know, so no need for you to worry about who it is.

I’m passing on this news about an anonymous couple to you, in the hopes that you will take a moment to share your feelings with your loved ones and friends.

Whether family, long-time friends, or new friends you all hold a special place in my heart and I’m grateful to have you in my life.

Feel free to share this with your friends, I can think of nothing better to honor Kelly than for love being shared today.

Love today.

New Survey

Posted on October 25th, 2005 in Announcements, Entertainment by Chooch

Tivo recently announced the Death of the VCR. It made me wonder when the last time I used my VCR was. It just so happens it was less than a month ago, but I can’t remember when it was before that.

How about you? You can cast your vote on the new poll”

Funker Vogt Review

Posted on July 13th, 2005 in Announcements, Entertainment by Chooch

Just when I thought industial dance music was just a fond dance club memory, I just happened to stuble across this nifty band and was given new hope. They resparked my interests in seeing if there are any other half-decent bands out there within the same genre.

German band Funker Vogt (German for Radio Operator Vogt) has been making albums for the past 10 years. Their image falls under that typical electronic post apocolyptic war music that any Blade Runner would have in his or her music collection.

If you have never heard of them before and were interested in getting a good taste, I would recommend Execution Tracks or Survivor first. I especially liked the mutilayered structure and depth of their songs along with their angry style vocals.

Photo Album Updates

Posted on December 20th, 2004 in Announcements, Photos by Chooch

I finished a major overhaul of the photo albums. It seems that there were some bugs from the upgrade I did a couple months ago. Many of the albums were broken and inaccessible.

I’ve gone through each of the albums and corrected any problems I found.

If you have any problems now, please let me know immediately so that I can get it fixed up.

Cheers!

The Oxfoot Gift Registry

Posted on December 14th, 2004 in Announcements by Chooch

I am happy to announce the arrival of the Oxfoot Gift Registry - just in time for the holidays… well, techinically “”in time”", though it would have been better a month or so ago..

Anyways, this is exactly what it sounds like — a gift registry for friends and family. Think of it like a Wedding Registry, or a Baby Shower Registry, except it works for any occasion (and you can add in your own occasions — birthdays, housewarmings, new jobs, etc…)

You create an account (it’s not linked to the rest of the site, unfortunately, so you have to create an account separate from Oxfoot) and start entering stuff that you’d like to receive.

You can check out the lists of other people in the registry and reserve the gifts you’ll like to give them.

You can access the registry from the link above, or it’s permanent home in the main menu under “”Community”".

Enjoy, and happy gifting!

Site re-arrange

Update -

Well, the album update block didn’t work so I removed it. I’ll work on it a bit, or possibly replace it with another one and keep you posted..As you may have noticed, I’ve done some re-arranging on the site.

The main changes are an uncluttered main menu (top left with the default theme) and a Gallery Update (bottom left with the default theme).

The gallery update is supposed to show you what Photo Albums have been changed since the last time you visited the site. Right now it should be showing all albums, since it’s just been activated.

Now, I’ve never used it before, but I’m thinking (hoping) that it will update at least once a day. As it is now, I’ve tried to log out and back in and stuff and it is still showing every single album.

We’ll give it a few days and see how it goes.. If it doesn’t seem to be updating, then I’ll take it back to the drawing board.

Mozilla / Firefox has over 65% market share!

Posted on November 23rd, 2004 in Announcements, Geeky by Chooch

Well…. on Oxfoot.com, at least :o)

I was just perusing some various statistics for this site and noticed that 65.3% of all visitors use Mozilla based browsers (Mozilla, Netscape, Firefox).

Only 32.9% use Internet Explorer.

Of course, 98.2% are using Windows - buy hey - you gotta start somewhere.

New Poll

Posted on November 20th, 2004 in Announcements by Chooch

I’ve been looking at a couple of on-line game engines and am thinking about adding some games to Oxfoot.

Please vote in the poll to the right and lemme know what kind of games you’d be most interested in.

Gallery Update

Posted on November 7th, 2004 in Announcements, Photos by Chooch

I’ve updated the Photo Gallery to the latest version. Some of the biggest improvements are in the area of uploading new photos and videos.

Now there are several different methods for upload as well as the ability to upload multiple pictures inside a .ZIP file all at the same time.

Check it out! Create a new album and post some pix :o)
